Title: Out to the Black
Author: seraphcelene
Rating: G
A/N: AU for Serenity (premiere). 246 words. Unbeta'd.
Disclamier: Firefly belongs to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy and sundry other people who are not me.
Dedication: Written for [livejournal.com profile] diachrony who asked for a totally sane River ... what the girl genius would be if she'd never been kidnapped and had her brain messed with. Uncreepy but still supah smart. Your choice of situation. And it has to be non-dark! It's not quite what you asked for, my dear, but I hope that you enjoy.
Summary: River is as sane as any fifteen year old spoiled and adored by her older brother.

I blame this on the slowness of my yesterday and [livejournal.com profile] kormantic, who once encouraged me to write porn on the man's dime. I didn't actually manage the porn part.

For [livejournal.com profile] thawrecka:

A very late birthday present, so we'll call it something for the Holiday Season!!

Fsndom: Firefly
A/N: 100 words, River.
Rating: G
Summary: She fills the cup just over half way

The Temperature of Water

“Cha Dao,” Inara smiles.

“The art of making tea.”

River remembers red clay from childhood. Inara’s teapot is elegant black porcelain.

River’s hands dance over the cups, between chopsticks and a bamboo scoop. She sips the tea and falters, Inara’s life balances on her lips, washes behind her eyes.

This is the good part. The beyond the skin part when she can taste the color of Inara’s eyes, drink up her longing and spit it back into the world. She can look at Mal with knowing eyes, and Simon and Kaylee. Taste the waste of their love and the loss.

Title: Tremble in the Water
A/N: AU during Serenity. Title from Tennyson's Lady of Shalott
Count: 100 words
Summary: There are other ways it could have ended.

Tremble in the Water

Girl-in-the-Box pop. Swaying, and then up over the side. Simon caught her before she hit the floor. Eased her down and smoothed back her hair. Caught her wet and naked; she wasn’t breathing.

Simon stroked her ribs, her chest and heart. Breathed into her nose and mouth, counted the seconds of her life slipping away.

“Mei Mei, please,” he begged and tried to press all of the air in the cargo hold into her empty lungs. Ignored the heavy silence around him and that was it. Not enough time even for the infirmary.

Just breathless River on the floor unmoving.

My first attempt at Firefly. x-posted at [livejournal.com profile] ff_friday.

Summary: River on eggshells. Sometimes, it's the little things.
A/N: Challenge #87 - Water. River and Simon. 126 words.

Broken

"Don't cry," Simon says and shushs. Whisper sounds from his lips trailing static over the drip, drip, drip of water from a broken pipe.

"Information leaks, tears leak. Girls leak tears made up of water, salt and hormones. Emotional tears." River stretches away from Simon's encompassing, restraining arms and snaps her teeth at his carefully concerned face.

“Escape through an opening created by fault or mistake. I leak,” she whimpers. “Condensation. I am a girl in a box."

Simon sighs a gentle puff of defeat against River's hair. "River, please. I don't understand."

"Water cycles. There’s a leak, Simon. My hair is wet." She pushes against his arms, head and heals pressing, her aching body arching against him. "Serenity hurts, Simon. She hurts and cries tears."
