Hola, kidlets!

I have been busy, hoo boy and it doesn't promise to get any better. With the holidays ramping up into full swing, I'm sure you're all feeling the pressure as well. So, just before I fall off the face of the map again. I'll fill you in on a few things.

How I spent my weekend )

IWRY Fic Marathon )

That's me, kids!

For the remainder, I will be finishing up sundry applications, attempting to finish one more fic before year's end, seducing the Giant Cutie-Honey, and eating too much chocolate.

I hope that you all will be up to the same.

Oh, and also, I am charmed by Tin Man even though I find Dorothy Gale (aka DG) to be pretty uninteresting. Why is it that everbody else has angst and delicious back story except for her. Not to mention they all have better names. I mean how do we go from Azkadellia to DG, for heaven's sake.

This I know, but it's impossible to avoid. I'm not that good a person. My fandom leaves me heart broken and green with envy.

For the [livejournal.com profile] lynnevitational
[livejournal.com profile] kita0610 wrote Little Deaths: Family and Incest in the Jossverse. Little Deaths is difficult, complex and beautifully horrific.

and

[livejournal.com profile] lostakasha wrote Camera Obscura, a gorgeous, tense, bottom of the barrel sequel to the equally gorgeous Pentimento written for the last IWRY marathon.

Feedback the authors, please.

There are more recs from the [livejournal.com profile] lynnevitational in the previous post. Feed them, too.

Sunday after I posted my lynnevitational fic I went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Mostly because I was so anxious about the fic that I needed something to distract me and going to the movies ensured that I wouldn't be clicking the refresh button every five minutes to check for comments.

All in all, I'm glad that I went. I wasn't planning to go, not really. My experience with the HP movies has been less than stellar, but this one ... this one I was surprised to discover I totally adored.

The Order of the Phoenix )

In other news, the [livejournal.com profile] lynnevitaional has been a resounding success, I think. I've gotten to read through some of what's been posted, although not all because there are quite a few WIP's. Anyway, I am in love with:

Birds in Cages (Spike, R) by [livejournal.com profile] cadhla
Poggra-mengri (Giles/Jenny, PG-13) by [livejournal.com profile] stakebait
Chthonic (Fred/Faith, G) by [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight
The Drizzle and the Sunshine (Gunn/Buffy, Wesley/Gunn, NC-17)by [livejournal.com profile] viciouswishes

Outside of the ficathon, I've also just read a fabulous Addams Family/Angel cross-over. Totally had me laughing and those voices are beautifully spot on. A great, great read.

Her Beauty and Her Terror. Addams Family/AtS crossover. (Harmony/Wednesday, PG-13) by [livejournal.com profile] ijemanja

[livejournal.com profile] tkp has written disturbing, heart breaking Angel/Connor. If the pairing disturbs you DON’T read it. What made this difficult reading for me were Connor’s exquisite vulnerability and Angel’s fractured longing. They’re both looking for connection. The fact that this is written in the Jasmine-verse makes it a million times more poignant because of Jasmine’s influence and the way that it has changed Angel, but perhaps more importantly, the way that it has not changed Connor.

Title: Pretty Screams In Paradise
Author: [livejournal.com profile] tkp
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Angel/Connor. Explicit Angel/Connor sex. If the concept offends you, please don’t click, read, or comment on this fic, and we’ll both be happier.
Summary: You can’t be saved by a lie.

[livejournal.com profile] yhlee on BtVS 3.9 - Choices.

recs:

Singularity by [livejournal.com profile] yhlee - Angel, post-Home Fred/Angel.
I like how this feels like Fred, logical but shuddery. It tastes of crazy Pylea!Fred and slightly less crazy Hyperion!Fred. And then there's Angel, a little scary, a little intimidating. We see him through Fred's eyes and the view is much more ambivalent than you might think. Plus, [livejournal.com profile] yhlee is a genuis, for real, and she has the amazing ability to write math and science as if they were the familiar lyrics to a favorite song.

more ponderous wishes or hopes less tall by [livejournal.com profile] obsessedmuch - Angel/Buffy, Riley/Lindsey sexiness but with lots of heart and tenderness. I think I love this most because of the vulnerability [livejournal.com profile] obsessedmuch invests Lindsay with. Lar really takes advantage of the little bit of heart we get to see in canon. Plus did I mention how HOT?!

On the flipside, can anyone rec me Angel fic featuring Illyria and Doyle? Together. At the same time. Possibly even together together.

Title: Apnea
Author: [livejournal.com profile] glossing
Summary: The effects of Orpheus are unpredictable.
Characters: Angel, Connor, Faith. Any and *all* combinations.
Rating: NC-17
Disclaimer: Made up, all of it.
Notes: For SeraC/seraphcelene's birthday. Thanks to _divya_ for North Shore help & inspiration.

She'll fall deeper, fly farther, just close her eyes and be away.

You guys! Please read this, rec it and leave the author lots and lots and lots of love!!!

This was originally recc'd by [livejournal.com profile] kita

Fandom: Angel
Title: Blood Types
Rating: hard R or NC-17 for language and implications of violence, non-con, and general nastiness
Summary: Some people taste different to Angel.

This is a beautiful, vivid and sharp exploration of love and, appropriately enough, food. Gorgeous imagery and poetics, it is a stunning journey through the way that people are defined, consumed and catorgorized. My favorites were Darla and Drusilla.

Go Read. And please, for the love of god, leave the author feedback.

Fic Recs

I've got 98 emails sitting in my ibox from the last year reccing fic. There were 100 but I managed to whittle it down by two. :) Got to get on the ball. All of that fantastic writing just a wastin'. So to give myself a bit of a kick in the pants I give you the two that made the cut of the first eight or so recs. (There were four or five in each email from the recent BBF archive day.)

One of Them Extreme Makeover Thingies by Tania
Rating: R (although I think I'd put it at more of a PG-13)
Spoilers: Season 5 Smile Time
Summary: Post Smile Time, Spike has several ideas about how Angel could bide his time.

Fun for the whole family. An adorable interlude.

Good Man by Huzzelwhat
Rating: R
Spoilers: Post-Bargaining AU
Summary: Xander does clean-up duty.

Dark and creepy. Another divine example of how very wrong things could have gone after Bargaining. Huzzlewhat hints at the outcome of Willow's spell, just barely showing us what's really going on. The suggestion and Xander's unique way of staring at the world from the corners of his eyes make this little piece delightfully horrible. I like that Xander's special world view is challenged and upheld all at once.

To warn you, if incest is one of those fic rules you don't break and if you're unwilling to peek, I'd definitly turn back now.

For everyone else:

I *highly* recommed Glossolalia's Bath and a Story. If I could write like anyone, this would be one.

ETA: Forgot to add the pertinent info. Angel/Connor S4 - Apocalypse Nowish.
