Title: Into the Valley

A/N: Thanks to
tkp for the prompt and for helping me to limber up.
Summary: post-Sleep Tight Holtz in the lion's den. 100 words.
And his eyebrows were singed and the curls on his head and the edges of the blanket wrapped around the baby.
The light cast shadows over everything and made his eyes cross. He forgot the words in his book. Forced garbled curses from his lips and froth and spit and he choked, nearly throttled the babe for wailing his wretched weakness at the world's end.
Bereft and abandoned, he'd forgotten his own name.
When he was twenty-three days lost (marked by wounds in tree bark), benediction welled from some forgotten corner.
"The Lord is my shepherd," he said. Then, "Angelus."

Liked the way you used the word "and"--felt very biblical.

This is actually a good excercise!! Thanks for suggesting it.
