Although I'm not really participatory anymore, I love that people are still discovering Buffy and Buffy fandom. I see all these new names cropping up, continuing to carry the torch and all.... pretty cool.

In other news, my cat seems to have some sort of heat related dermatitis. The temps over here have been in the 90's almost on a daily. Heading over to the vet tomorrow to see if we have any options that won't cost me an arm and leg. If they do, it's kinda too bad cause I have no arms or legs to offer up to the cause. :(

Today is a day where I feel like I am the worse writer in the history of writing. I just plain, flat out suck. Not being able to get around that sucks. It's partially inspired by the brief moment of empathy I experienced while watching The Words, the other part is a result of my complete failure to write something worthwhile for an anthology that I'm supposed to contributing to.

Whatever. Right now, I suck.

In other news, Billy the Vampire Slayer. I get the reasoning as explained by David Greenwalt and Marti Noxon, but I'm not going to lie and say that I'm too keen on it. I understand the narrative intention, it's like Robin Wood taking it upon himself to beat vampire bad guys. My distaste for this particular plot is, I think, located around the assumption of the title Vampire Slayer. The gay part, I don't care. A guy fighting vampires, I don't care. A guy fighting vampires and appropriating the vampire slayer moniker I find problematic. I'm still trying to work out exactly why. It is possible it has to do with the overabundance of hero narratives that revolve around men, and how the Vampire Slayer was (for better or worse) strictly female but is now being usurped by another male hero.

It's not like I read the comics, anyway, so I really don't suppose I should care.

[livejournal.com profile] a2zmom has a response to the BtVS Season 8 debate. She makes some very good points. That said, I am feeling a little disturbed that I'll be one of those people ignoring S8 as part of canon. I always make an effort to remain true to the source material (despite the wild and wacky tangents I get off on), regardless of my feelings concerning a season, canonical pairing or event in the Jossverse. Knowing that I will be intentionally ignoring the new stuff, well, I'm feeling a little insecure and mutinous. I don't know if this new sensation will be enough to bring me on board with the comics, I guess only time will tell. As of right now, however, it's a no-go.

Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;--
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
She was a child and I was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love--
I and my Annabel Lee--
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

[livejournal.com profile] tkp is buzzing about the potential of Summer Glau as a Terminator and The Sarah Connor Chronicles hence the title of today's post which actually has nothing to do with anything else.

Although it does randomly relate in a six degrees kind of way.

Lena Headey is cast to play Sarah Connor in the series and she just happened to have played Queen Gorgo in 300 which I just *happened* to see this past Friday.

Oh, the sound and the fury: spoilers for 300 )

I also heard tell that this weekend was Buffy's 10th anniversary. [livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves has been recc'ing fic all month in celebration so I knew it was coming up. She recc'd one of mine and I turned all manner of red.

Since everyone is discussing their relationship with Buffy and fandom, I thought I'd chime in as well.

Happy 10th Anniversary to the Buffyverse )

I've met some great, wonderful, intelligent, kind and awesome people via fandom. As [livejournal.com profile] chrisleeoctaves said, because of a TV show. Who knew! I didn't and I never would have imagined it.

So, hugs to you all for being so amazing and talented and scary smart! Thanks for the kind words, the art, the fic, the vids, and the conversation. You guys are PHENOMENAL!!
