Brief Update from the land of Me

Dear you guys!!!!

Thank you to EVERYONE for all the sympathy and hugs and love in the previous post. I will respond, just not at the moment. I am currently a little worse (or better) for rum and punch.

My car was stolen out of the garage. The gate was broken and has been broken for a week and a half. The management co says they don't have a Maintenence person to see to the property. They didn't know. He seemed a little nervous and I suspect there may be some liability issues.

I have a police report and I've filed a claim with my insurance. I have full coverage and with that comes 30 days of car rental which I will be taking advantage of shortly, seeing as how I have to get to work and all.

Otherwise, I have been indulging in cocktails, playing Sims, God of War II and enjoying the HBO/Cinemax free preview weekend (currently airing The Skeleton Key).

You guys are all awesome and thanks again and I promise to respond to everything when I'm slightly more coherant. Promise.

P.S. You know what I hate? I hate when right before you're about to start your period your nipples refuse to do anything but salute the entire world! It's uncomfortable. And so rude!

Me, too!! The guy at the rental place upgraded me for free, too. That was mighty nice of him. I didn't even have to ask. So, I guess, we get something nice for every horrible thing that goes wrong.

The management company knew about the broken gate and didn't do anything? I'd say big time liability issues.

Well, they say that they didn't know about the gate and that there is no maintenance person. However, my brothers and one of my neighbors always comment on the guy who shows up to do the maintenance on the apartments and, supposedly, who cleans up around the place, always sitting in his car, hanging out doing a whole lot of nothing. So, I don't know. What's pissing me off now is that they're telling me that I can't get a replacement garage opener because I was responsible for the one I had so I have to fill out a MT request and pay 30 bucks. That pisses me off because the implication is that it's my fault that I lost the stupid garage door opener and by extension it's my fault that my car was stolen. I went off on her voice mail because my car was stolen as a direct result of their failure to maintain the property.

I'll call the property manager on Monday. I was never interested in sueing them, all that I wanted was a new garage opener and to have the garage entry code re-keyed because whoever has my car now has access to the building. There's, of course, a liability clause in the contract stating that they are not responsible for any property damaged, lost, or stolen on the premises. Of course it doesn't say anything about what happens if something's stolen because of what they don't repair.

I'm in a quandry on what my next move should be. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated ... :)

Do you know a lawyer you can just run this by? Because the fact is, you have lost personal property and piece of mind due to their negligence.

It is their responsibility to have a maintenance person. Claiming they don't have one is no excuse.

I don't know any lawyers, but I should probably go about finding out if it's a possibility. My BFF's parents are landlords and her mom also works at a Management Company. She says I could try, he says I can do it, but there's lots of red tape. My MC opts for arbitration in the lease agreement ... I have no clue what that really means. Even though everything is keyless entry, armed anti-theft system and what not, I think that I'll buy a club tomorrow. I used to have a club, I have no idea what happened to it and at what point I stopped using it or why.

I've been reading lots and apparantly I made it insanely easy for someone to steal my car and that the older models are exactly what they're looking for. Here I thought my car was too old to be of any interest to car theives.

I really, really, really hate this. And on top of that the adjustor won't call me back. If I don't hear from him by tomorrow, I'll have to find a manager and ask for my case to be reassigned. Dude.

Anyway, I am sometimes cheap and sometimes easy. Sometimes at the same time. Not unlike a fast food restaurant, although I am much less greasy. There is,however, still the possibility of a heart attack.
