Pride and Prejudice was better than I anticipated. Mr. Darcy was dashing and romantic, Kiera's Knightly's Elizabeth, although too tomboyish, was charming. I know she was supposed to be a "revelation" in the part, but she was kinda meh. She still looks like a rabbit and WAY TOO THIN, but I liked her.

I am surprised that I actually enjoyed the film. It doesn't trump the Garson/Olivier version and I've seen only part of the BBC version but it was cool. Mr. Bingley looked rather foolish with the hair and Miss Bingley is surely more surly then she appeared in the film.

The ending was unrealistic and insipid. What the HELL is Elizabeth doing running around in her nightgown and WHY on Earth would Darcy show up at her house all undone like that? If they showed up at her father's study looking like that it wouldn't have been a question of 'do you want to marry', rather it would have been 'you must marry.' Watching it made me wish that Emma Thompson had written the script because this one was so tampered with that it was slightly off-putting.

But what got me, what sold me on the film, not as a Jane Austen film but as pure romantic fantasy, was Darcy's proposal in the rain. And at the end of it, after she's shoved her disdain through his heart like a knife, how it looks like he is SO going to kiss her only he doesn't and instead apologized for wasting her time.

Dude. I felt that one.

So, yeah. It was okay. I'd buy it for $10.00 a Target just for that scene.

And then, because I was SO in the mood, I had to watch Sense and Sensibility because that's Austen done up right. LOVE!!
