Mama Says - The gentle percussive strikes a serious chord in my heart. Touching on how women can disappear into the idea that a man and a relationship is the only way they have value or identity, Mama Says is so, so sad. What makes it even sadder is that this is a child, a daughter, singing about what her Mama Says. Mama, an identity that is integral to the presence of self, that should be integral to the active participation in the life of a child, but Mama doesn't recognize the importance of her identity independent of this man who maybe has helped her to become a mother and so the child has lost two parents in the end
