Date: 2024-04-10 08:47 pm (UTC)From:I am writing not fanfiction, but I miss it so much. There was a low stakes, navel gaze-y, disinterest in how my writing fit into the fandom discourse as a whole that allowed me to write all the things just because I wanted to. Working on original fiction has been a whirlwind because the question of audience always pops up and I find that question utterly exhausting. I miss talking craft and theory and fandom interpretation. I think that perhaps changes in social media may have made fandom very different these days, but I miss those long-winded essays about characters, etc. Both writing them and reading them.
Anyway, starting notes on my next MS. The current MS is maybe 75-80% done. I broke some things on purpose in this most recent revision pass, and now I'm trying to fix them. In retrospect, that struggle has everything to do with me managing other people's imagined expectations. I am now back to writing what I want to write and not what I think people will want to read.
Interesting how very different those two things are.
Work is trash. But then work is always trash. Trying to not let that get in the way of my writing goals!! I want to announce on here how I got a publishing deal one day!

Date: 2024-04-11 10:26 pm (UTC)From:Writing fanfiction does feel so low stakes in comparison to original fiction. I have never cared if my fic was cool or popular or what the people wanted, but when I was trying to write original fiction and submitting it I was constantly aware of how bad I was at writing things that were mainstream or marketable. It was exhausting!
I'm hoping for the best for you! You can knock that MS out of the park! (I'm not sure if that metaphor makes sense ๐) I believe you can get that publishing deal!

Date: 2024-04-13 04:05 pm (UTC)From:I've been sooooo busy lately. I'm directing a play for an amateur theatre troupe, my first time directing! They wrote the script themselves (it's a murder mystery) but the first act was soooo boring that I had to rewrite the whole thing. Now I'm working with a dozen people who have never done theatre in their lives, which is CRAZY but it's a hoot!
Drove a few hours with my niece to see the total solar eclipse. I've seen partial eclipses before but never totality. It was the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life, no exaggeration. And the weather was perfect for viewing! We had a blast.
Been on Tumblr most every day following the IwtV fandom. The new season starts May 12 and I am psyched!
I'm excited that you're writing fanfic again! Which fandoms? How's every other thing?
*HUGS*
EDIT: Whoops, it's one of your DW friends who's writing fanfic, not you. Reading is hard.

I'm such a homebody. I love when people get out into the community and get into shenanigans. Community theater sounds amazing. Fun and frustrating all at once.
California got next to none of the eclipse. I actually missed it on account that it was so subtle and I was at work. I thought I would notice the change in the light, but I as working ... and I totally didn't. I heard the the temper dropped as well during the eclipse which is CRAZY but makes perfect sense. It's such a cool thing to take part in.
And IwtV! That story you wrote was *chef's kiss*!! I'm excited for the new season, as well. Bummed that the original Claudia won't be back but also open to the change. There were so many dazzling things about the first season. I'm really, really, really hoping that it maintains that elegance and drama.

I'll miss Bailey Bass, too, but Delainey Hayles looks like she'll be amazing in the role.
