"What happens when a robot designed to be a boy’s ideal “companion” develops a will of her own?"
The premise was interesting, reminded me a little of the movie Cherry 2000. The only thing that I didn't care for was the abruptly and incompletely resolved ending. We find out what happens to Charlie and David, but what about Rose? As much as the book was about the boys, it becomes Rose's tale, too. She really is the center of the narrative, and as she evolves, she becomes representative of all of the novel's best intentions. The boys are pushed to supporting characters, so to have her ultimate ending erased from the storyline left me very unsatisfied. I mean, sure, Rose gets an orgasm and that's awesome and everything, but she had also developed sentience and I wanted to know what became of her after all that. So, I have to downgrade my rating. I wish I could give half stars because I'd like to give this a little bump, but I don't want to make it a full 4 stars.
