Slow but fun!! I slogged through the ending just a bit, but that might have been the wine. I really liked Annabelle, and Zachareal was teh awesome. I loved that not everything was just easy with them. I really liked that their relationship progressed in stages, some of which he wasn't too sure he wanted to go through. The description of the universe that this series will be written in was interesting. I loved the idea of the angels: who they are, what they do, and how they function in the world at large. The cameo of the Lords of the Underworld, however, got me really, really curious. They were arguably the best part of the book, so I will definitely be going back to read the other series. There was just a lot of life and personality in those characters. Showalter obviously has a strong understanding of who they are and how they function in the verse.

The novel's climax was anti-climatic to say the least, it almost felt like Showalter was running out of steam. I would have liked to have seen the uber-villian threaded through the story more (and better). He's an off-screen threat most of the time and that dilutes the narrative tension. LOVED THANE! I'm pretty positive Showalter will be writing his story at some point, and I won't be surpised if Cairio is part of the story.

Def looking forward to seeing where this goes. And in the meantime ... Lords of the Underworld here I come!
