A/N: 173 words, Star Trek-reboot, pre-movie.
She is loved, or in love. He isn't sure how to tell the difference, but whichever it is shines beneath her skin. It's in the way that she walks, her stride long, shoulders back, her hair swaying just above her hips. It's in the hello smile she flashes at the other cadets, incrementally brighter for the ones she already knows.
This is what Spock thinks, what he sees, the first thought he has in relation to Uhura. It's a somewhat distracted, abstract thought until it's not. Later, he will think of his mother and her parents and how she, too, is loved.
Uhura smiles and waves her way to a seat near the front of the room. Touching hands and shoulders, a brush of cheek in place of a kiss. The class isn't small, exactly. She doesn't sit in the front row, doesn't sit dead center. She doesn't have to, everyone knows that she is Uhura. To Spock she is Nyota. She is ashayam.

Date: 2010-03-10 03:07 am (UTC)From:Trek fandom scares the crap out of me. There just seems like so much to know and I don't know it and wouldn't have a clue about where to begin. Of course, it's always possible. Witness the HP fic. I am terrified by that fandom, too.
