The end of the year has rolled in and I'm doing what I always do, eat too much junk and sum up my year. Although it wasn't a year for reading fic. It was a good year for reading books ...

1. Hogfather (re-read) - Terry Pratchett
I read Hogfather every year at Christmas. I am, in fact, halfway through it right this moment.
2. Special Topics in Calamity Physics - Marisha Pessl (review)
3. The Darkest Evening of the Year - Dean Koontz (review)
4. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (re-read) - J.K. Rowling
This begin the year of Harry Potter re-reads. I was supposed to get through all seven in one year. Ha! You'll see how well I did with that one. I suppose that I will have to try it again next year.
5. Coraline (re-read) - Neil Gaiman (review)
6. Unaccustomed Earth - Jhumpa Lahiri
A haunting and beautiful collection of short stories
7. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - Rachel Cohen and David Levithan
Definitely one of my favorite reads this year.
8. The Endearment (re-read) - LaVyrle Spencer
9. Tales of Beedle the Bard - J.K. Rowling
10. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (re-read) - J.K. Rowling
11. Dream a Little Dream (re-read) - Susan Elizabeth Philips
12. A Mercy - Toni Morrison
13. The Graveyard Book - Neil Gaiman
14. Wild Child - Mary Jo Putney
15. Me and Mr. Darcy - Alexander Potter
I am not a fan of all the re-writes, expansions, professional fanfic, or JA adjacent books, but this one was surprisingly enjoyable.
16. Death Angel - Linda Howard
17. Inkheart - Cornelia Flunke
18. A Great and Terrible Beauty - Libba Bray
19. City of Bones - Cassandra Clare (review)
20. Tithe - Holly Black
So began my love affair with Holly Black's Modern Fairy Tales, my favorite series of the year. They are phenomenal and rate right up there with my discovery of Melissa Marr last
year. I LOVED these books.

21. Ironside - Holly Black
22. A Man to Call My Own - Johanna Lindsey
23. City of Ashes - Cassandra Clare
24. Valiant - Holly Black
It is very possible that I love Val and Raavus more than Kaye and Roiben.
25. The Third Angel - Alice Hoffman
26. The Forest of Hands and Teeth - Carrie Ryan
I wasn't sure about the whole zombie apocalypse thing, but this turned out to be a pretty awesome book.
27. Fragile Eternity - Melissa Marr
Fragile Eternity is the lesser of the three books currently in this series. It's a bridge book, a set-up to what happens next in the universe. In that way it was a disappointing, if necessary, read. However, I am very delighted that there are going to be two more books. Radiant Shadows is scheduled for release in April 2010 and there will be one more book to close out the series at five.
28. Memories of My Melancholy Whores - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
29. Loose Girls: a memoir of promiscuity - Kerry Cohen
Although it fails in ways that have everything to do with the fact that it is a memoir, Loose Girls is one of those books that I will never read again, but recommend to every woman I know. I think it's important for us to know these Loose Girls and guard ourselves and our daughters from becoming them. And not because I think that girl who have sex are Bad, but because of all the underlying reasons for the behaviors.
30. Such a Pretty Girl - Laura Weiss
A very satisfying, if unlikely, ending.
31. The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold
I read The Lovely Bones in preparation for the film's release, and I am so very glad that I did.
32. City of Glass - Cassandra Clare
33. Forbidden Magic - Jo Beverly
34. The Bride (re-read) - Julie Garwood

It was a close one this year: 34/50. Let's see if we can't make that 50 mark come December 2010.
