I'm glad that I gave this one a second shot. Although The Deep End still isn't the most riveting drama, it might get a little more interesting. Failing that, at least its full of the pretty.

The addition of Mechad Brooks as Malcolm definitely up the sexy on this show. The guy is gorgeous and he has a GREAT voice. So far, though, he's been pretty much less central than the other characters. Very sidekick lite. But, I have hope! For episode two they paired him up with the adorable Tina Majorino and I would LOVE to see them get up to some shenanigans.

outside the cute, this episode had a few shining moments. Beth faced off with her asshole father in the courtroom. He played her like a fiddle and she threatened to reveal his perfidy. Standard stuff, but Tom Amandes seems to be relishing his role and I find him particularly unsavory. So superior, so dismissive of his spawn! Nicole Ari Parker also got to sink her teeth in a little when Susan's Prince of Darkness husband reveals his affair with the head paralegal. I like that Susan is sharp, smart, gorgeous and an awesome dresser. She also get the best line of the night.

(After hubby cops to the affair, Susan confronts Katie by giving her a promotion that will send her off to the wilds of Montana. She offers her more money, peace and quiet where she can study for the bar and, help with finding a job afterwards.)

Katie: This is not how I wanted this to go.
Susan: Well, make lemonade because this is me being nice.

Oh, Susan, how I love you.

I probably won't be distracted by the shiny for much longer, but, as I mentioned last week, I get Clancy Brown on my TV. That's always for the good.
