It's very odd to find myself falling half in love with a fandom whose source material I loathe. Because doubt it not, I think the books are royal crap. It's everything else around the edges that seems to be calling me. Things that are drawing the gold out of the dross.
Title : The Still Hour
Author :
ophelietta
Characters/Pairings : Jacob, Bella, brief mentions of E/B.
Summary : Their love is so dystopian.
Rec: A gorgeous, gorgeous, poetic, broken and sad vision of the future.
ophelietta fleshes out Meyer's caricatures lovingly and precisely, and writes an end to the world that's worthy of the "idea" of the characters as Meyer never managed to realize them. Exploring ideas of survival, humanity and memory, The Still Hour is beautifully and most gorgeously painted in shades of shadow and ash, giving us a peek at who Bella could become.
The Lady is mercilessly beautiful. Her skin is bone white and her hair is mahogany, not the grey of ashes and dust and sand that coats everyone else. She moves in perfect silence. If you have the good luck to see her, then it is already too late.
