seraphcelene: (it mocks me)
Title: Out to the Black
Author: seraphcelene
Rating: G
A/N: AU for Serenity (premiere). 246 words. Unbeta'd.
Disclamier: Firefly belongs to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy and sundry other people who are not me.
Dedication: Written for [livejournal.com profile] diachrony who asked for a totally sane River ... what the girl genius would be if she'd never been kidnapped and had her brain messed with. Uncreepy but still supah smart. Your choice of situation. And it has to be non-dark! It's not quite what you asked for, my dear, but I hope that you enjoy.
Summary: River is as sane as any fifteen year old spoiled and adored by her older brother.

"River, they're criminals ..."

"They're jacks-of-all-trades," River interrupted.

"They're common thieves."

River stroked the wall, closed her eyes as she listened to the contented hum of Serenity's engine.

"They're explorer's," she said dreamily.

Simon rolled his eyes. "We're leaving."

River's eyes snapped open; she stamped her foot. "Simon! Imagine how much fun we'll have. We'll get to see the entire system." Her voice peaked with frustration.

"I seriously doubt there's anything out there worth seeing."

Carefully Simon double checked the instruments in his medical bag, he didn't trust that Jayne hadn't pilfered one of the expensive tools.

River stuck her tongue out at her brother who returned the gesture.

"You are such a stick in the mud," she pouted, arms crossed over her chest as she leaned against the wall.

Obviously throwing a tantrum wasn't working. Simon had always tried to give River what she wanted, but he was just as likely to tell her no, for her own good he always said.

"Simon, please," she begged gently as she pushed away from the wall. "If we're going to be fugitives we might as well have some fun."

Simon had given up so much to keep her safe. Smuggled her out of the house before her parents or the administrators at the Academy could guess that they had been contacted by a secret organization and warned about the Academy.

Gently River looped her thin, gangly arms around Simon's waist and squeezed. "C'mon, Simon," she smiled brightly. "Let's be pirates."

But I love this! There is no "exactly." You're just to go with the way you're inspired by my evil little prompts. ;)

Now the idea you had originally ... that would be AWESOME ... but I see what you mean about problematic technical aspects!
