Okay, so, you know how you write something and you love it even if no on else does because there's something about what you've written or the way that you've written it that just rings true to you, for you? It works for some reason and it's everything you've ever wanted to say about a particular subject.

Yeah.

Burn the Flag is like that for me. I read it and it sounds exactly how I wanted it to sound. I read it, of course, completely differently from anyone else because I *know* how it's supposed to sound. Smooth and slightly rushed. Fluid. Because it's stream of consciousness, sort of, and disjointed and disconnected without being jarring. And I love it. I love that I was able to write it and it's one of those pieces that I don't mind didn't get much attention because it works for me. I knew when I wrote it that it wouldn't totally make sense because it's not only *in* River's head, but it's in MY River's head. And My!River is very obviously not Your!River.

So, my question is: What fic have you ever written that you love, not because of style or the amount of feedback or that it fits perfectly in canon or whatever, because it is the perfect expression about how you feel/felt about a character/moment/pairing/episode/pick your poison? And I mean something that is just rings really true for you regardless of its reception/reaction by fandom.

And also …. because we loves the thinky thoughts! Go tell [livejournal.com profile] tkp all about what you love about metaphor.

Well, you may know how it was supposed to sound, but how it sounded to me in my head was fabulous. It has perfect flow. I'm glad you posted a link to it; I know there were a couple stories of yours I've missed I've been meaning to go back and read for a long time. The language just, really soaks in on that one. You're right, it didn't make total sense to me, but it did sound like River, and it did feel like I was in her head, and that's a hard thing to do.

Thanks for linking me!

In answer to your question...oh, I don't know. That other people liked it never makes me like a piece more, so my love is always pretty independent of fan reaction. But I did this piece once about Spike and Dru, that was really me just being random, and I'm convinced that it can't really read well to anyone except me. In the end it didn't actually do what I hoped it would, but it's the kind of piece that was written to play in my head rather than tell a story. Completely introverted, I guess is what I'm saying. I guess that's why I never spent time to fix it up nice. It was No Need For Cake Or Flowers (http://tkp.livejournal.com/26020.html).

Well, thank you.

"Burn The Flag" is poetical too--there's far more meaning in it.
