Wow. My first ever
farscapefriday response. The theme was Summer Vacation and
thassalia mentioned the Go-Go's.

A/N: Pre-Pilot drabble
They take the 101 North towards Monterey, top down and DK snores in the passenger seat with his feet propped up on the dash. John turned the radio down once they hit the coast because *this* slice of the ocean is always more beautiful than he ever remembers, and the gleam of sunlight on water is a little like going to church. Somehow the echo of Belinda Carlisle's voice ricocheting between mountain and sea is a sort of sacrilege and John changes the station, finally settling for the sweet, near-melancholy twang of Santo and Johnny.
Sleep Walk always reminds John of high school dances and waltzing with his mother in the kitchen.
DK sleeps through the lazy drift of highway curves and the salty breeze, the thunder and crash of waves. He stirs only slightly when the cars behind them honk because John has slowed the convertible so that he can stare periodically at the Pacific Ocean stretching out beside them.
It's vacation. They are feeling fine and soon, one day, the Farscape One will spin itself out across the stars and this will be something that John remembers as he stares down at all of the oceans of the world.

Date: 2005-07-20 05:37 am (UTC)From:Anyway, you're still making my day! That you've taken the time to go back and comment is awesome. This is what I love about commenting. The interaction between writer and reader, text and subtext. To see what works for people and what doesn't and even more, WHY it works. What resonates for each individual reader. I love the negotiation of writing, translating what's in my head into something that can be negotiated by others. The way that readers interpert texts via lived, personal experiance. Love that kind of stuff. It's the one thing that I loved the most about grad school.
So, thanks for FB. Thanks mucho!

And I always intend to hunt your stuff down. I would have commented long ago if I'd been around. It would be my loss, if I missed out on your writing!

the gleam of sunlight on water is a little like going to church
So, I'm surprised by much that last line resonates with people. But, hey. Love that it does!

Since you're so good with last lines -- I'm not surprised that they often overshadow other lines in your fic, in the responses you get. And don't worry -- that definitely doesn't mean the whole is not excellent!
