Gorgeously unexpected takes on classic fairy tales. From Snow White to Bluebeard, Block surprises with twist endings that turn each fairy tale on its head. What I love love love about this book is how much agency these girls have. They are no longer passively awaiting the end of the narrative, rather they are demanding, moving, striving, deciding, and embracing their endings. In these tales happily ever after isn't just a prince on a white horse riding in to make everything okay. These happily ever after's mean many things, and some of those many aren't always the happiest. It's a fantastic book for Disney obsessed little princesses to read when they grow up a little because it's not always about the guy or how pretty you look, sometimes it's about saving your own life.
