Slick, pretty, young lawyers being slick, pretty and young together while being harassed by older, some still pretty sharks spread across the moral spectrum. It's an old song. We've been here before, and so far, The Deep End doesn't promise any new notes.

Legal dramas are not my thing. I went there once and only once with any real joy and that was because Boston Legal really was a crazy, kick ass show. But then it had the amazing double team of James Spader and William Shatner. Toss in a little Candice Bergen and some wily Betty White, and how could a girl resist? The Deep End lured me in with the promise of Clancy Brown as Hart Sterling, the second gen head of a big, prestigious law firm . They then gave me Billy Zane playing a callous, greedy, self-serving lawyer the like of which defines our idea of the type. Nicole Ari Parker is his gorgeous, brilliant wife and partner at the firm. All of this talent and you'd think it would make for interesting TV. Alas, The Deep End falls pretty flat despite all the pretty.

Pat dialogue, obvious plots, stock characters make up the layout of the show. The Deep End feels standard and despite the brief, late in the game addition of the ridiculously hot Mechad Brooks, I can't see myself devoting much more time to this show. I'll try to give Mechad a chance to win me over, but somehow I just don't see that he will be enough.
