2013: Year in Books
Dec. 30th, 2013 06:05 pmHO-LY COW!
I need to write some things. It's been a long time and I am feeling tres disconnected from LJ-land. Oh, beautiful, smart people I have failed at connectedness this year. Oddly, while trying to be connected. The book marketing thing is hard and I don't have the heart for it. TOTALLY NOT cut out for it. I will tell you about it later. Promise.
In the meantime.
LIST! Cause that's always really easy. List of the things that I read this year:
A whole lot of crap literature, that's what I remember. But when I actually look back, there were a few bright spots although not one of them was a classic. That was supposed to be my goal. 10 classics. Instead, I read 19 fabulously random novels. Some were definitely way better than others. Tessa Dare was a real pleasant surprise since I don't really read a lot of new romances any more. I have a few tried and true old school faves and that's kind of it. But, Tessa Dare is my new favorite in that genre. I also fell prey to the free and discount Kindle reads. Sometimes that buck goes a long way (Heather Heffner) and sometimes you think about how that dollar would have been better spent in the vending machine (some random things on my Kindle that I never even bothered to finish). There were some revelations, like Joe Hill's Heart-Shapped Box. That and Yoon Ha Lee's Conservation of Shadows were the best things I read this year. Reviews are up at Goodreads and Amazon if anyonecares is interested. Hopefully, next year will be a better year filled with better books. (Ha! I wonder how many worse of lists *I* made this year.)
