Maybe it's because my mom passed away eight years ago, or maybe it's because she was sick for some years before she died and I took care of her, but whatever it was, I found Please Look After Mom to be a sad and devastating read. The shifting POV's were a little distracting, especially since the bulk of it is 2nd person (although different persons). Still, I loved the simple language and the enormous amount of heart and anguish residing within the pages. I think it was a beautiful exploration of what motherhood can be, and how as children we take for granted that our parents are no one else except the function they perform in our lives. Until maybe one day we realize that they are people, too.
