- Gratuitous sex. Although that's hard to get around because it's a huge plot point.

- Gratuitous nipplage, which is easier to get around except that the powers that be don't want to get around it.

- Not funny. Impossible to deal with considering that this is supposed to be a comedy.

I don't find Dane Cook all that amusing. I love Employee of the Month, but almost strictly for the hilariousness that is Dax Sheppard. Jessica Alba was endearing and kinda quirky, but not really. Charlie gets really creepy and stalker towards the end and the movie quickly loses what charm it has. It's gross in places, demeaning in others. There's a couple of aww, sweet points, but mostly it's just a big fat nope!

Sorry Chuck, you lost me at hello.

So, speaking of movie scores ...

The Reaping kinda sucked. The music worked way too hard, heavy, over dramatic in a way that when done right can be hugely affective, like in The Exorcist, but that here was just melodramatic and a little B movie of the week. Originally scored by Philip Glass who also scored The Hours and Kundun, The Reaping was re-scored by John Frizzell who composed the score for Office Space, Alien Resurrection and Thirteen Ghosts. No wonder it blowed. Suckage also turned out to be a theme because the entire movie was a failure at whatever it actually was attempting. The plot was convoluted, the dialogue was crappy, it wasn't scary and the only reason that I was grossed out was because I made the mistake of eating a grilled cheese sandwich right in the middle of the lake of blood scene. (I have a delicate stomach, yo!)

we're talking The Bible, Ten Plagues of Egypt, how can you possibly go wrong? )
