Ever since I was a wee tot I loved the beginning of the new TV season. All the shiny new shows lined up for Fall. LOVED IT! In the beginning, my love revolved around the Saturday morning cartoons: The Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa, Rubik the Amazing Cube, Strawberry Shortcake, Robotech, JEM, etc etc etc. As I got older and the quality of animated shows produced in the US severely declined, my love for the live action shows soared.
However, I am Shocked and Amazed by how much I do NOT care about the current season. I was actually looking forward to it. Excited, yes! I was going to watch The Nine and Ugly Betty, Jericho, Heroes, oh, all sorts of things. Only, well, the season started and, hmmm, not so much ...
Ugly Betty is charming and entertaining, but I could easily wait for the DVD. Heroes has been vaguely watchable, but again, not really that interesting. Jericho never even had a chance, despite my love for Skeet Ulrich. I still haven't watched a single, solitary episode of The Nine.
Even my old stand-by's have failed me: Desperate Housewives has tanked in my mind, Grey's Anatomy (that I loved all the way through that heartbreaker of a season finale) has failed to get me to tune in on Thursday nights. What the HECK?! I know NOT what the deal is!
What I have found absolutely entertaining? Well, apparently, I've gone off my meds and am looking at the world through lens of crazy:
Men in Trees
Avatar: the Last Airbender
Trinity Blood
Bleach
Eureka 7
Brothers and Sisters
I got Anne Heche, Calista Flockhart and anime. Go figure.
The anime isn't the problem. I love anime. Although Bleach is less than stellar, I mostly watch it because it's sandwiched between Trinity Blood and Eureka 7, I usually don't tune in on a regular basis because Cartoon Network isn't always the most consistent with its programming.
The only other thing? And I am beyond surprised by my devotion, Brothers and Sisters. Every Sunday I tune in and expect to tune out, but it's yet to happen. I am in love with those guys. Even conservative, republican, up-tight Kitty. Love it. It's very formulaic in ways, but there's just something about those characters that totally suck me in. Plot's not that deep, not really much in the way of drama or narrative tension, but man, I just love those guys. No clue why. Just love!
So, what are you watching, my dears? And should I be watching it, too?

Date: 2006-10-24 07:06 am (UTC)From:"House" rocks, but is in repeats right now. So far, though, Fox hasn't dropped the ball on it, so it's not just good, it's VERY LUCKY. ;-)
Also very good is "Doctor Who," although that's in repeats right now. I'd advocate catching up at
Lastly, although this is by no means the best of my recs, "Supernatural" is entertaining. Also, it's competing with "Justice League" for Most Whedonverse Guest Stars. ("Supernatural" has had Amy Acker, Julie Benz, Amber Benson and Summer Glau so far this year)
...the weird thing is, I don't actually even WATCH that much TV...

What's up with my TV ennui. Dude. And I LOVE Julie Benz. Just watched a really, really bad TV movie where she was all evil and such.

It's a weird thing but for some reason I stopped watching House halfway through S2. I'm not quite sure why. I still had the love, it was still interesting and entertaining. Hugh Laurie still rocks my socks, but ... meh. I don't know What that's about.
The other two, I'm willing to try out. Dr. Who and Torchwood. My eye is peeping already.

Date: 2006-10-24 03:54 pm (UTC)From:I have refused to watch any "Brothers & Sisters" because it's on too late at night and I don't want to have to deal with another late-night show that I'll have to tape. Although I was faintly interested for Calista Flockhart, just to see what she's up to.
I'm not even watching that much myself - and what I do "watch" is usually taped for later viewing. I really want to kick "CSI" for various reasons, but right after they have a rotten show they have one that gets me interested again (plus, I have a thing for Sophia). Also, it's the one I watch with my mom ... though we'd still have "House." DH is what I watch with my dad. Everything else I tape and enjoy later, even though my dad also loves "Boston Legal."
I'm getting into "Heroes" and wanna see where they're going. I am also still taping GA though I haven't watched any eps yet.
I think it's easy to fall out of the habit sometimes, even with a show you love, and then just not get back to it. That's why I love DVD sets! When I'm in the mood I can fully enjoy the show again, even if I missed a good half of it when it was being run.

Date: 2006-10-24 05:12 pm (UTC)From:Oh, gods, you've hit the nail on the head! That is so true! Right in the middle of Ugly Betty I was totally resentful of the fact that I'm expected to tune in EVERY week for twenty-six weeks or how ever long the season is. I was just So Very Irritated by the thought. But WHY the doldrums? Where did they come from? Although, I've been reading like a house on fire lately and I had been missing that. *sigh* Oh, TV, why do you do these things to me.

Word, dude, word. My BFF says the same thing and I am fast moving over to the dark side of the Force. DVD's YAY!! I've actually just caught up on the First Season of Boondocks that way and there's a couple of serials I want to tune in to, including the second half of the Second Season of House.
