Putting together the outline for a paper - Lame, stupid and otherwise totally undescriptive working title is
"As strong and as interesting as men": Re-imagining H. Rider Haggard's Ayesha and the Victorian New Woman for a modern audience in Anne Rice's The Queen of the Damned.
I'll tell you what it's about later. There is a thesis, I promise.
Now for the wacky fun, or maybe not so much:
When, notice I say *when* and not if, they re-make Queen of the Damned I would like to see the parts cast as following (note that some of these are based on acting skills, some on looks and some are kinda arbitrary):
Akasha: Patricia Velasquez
Maharet: Nicole Kidman
Mekare: Nicole Kidman
Khayman: Johnny Depp or Viggo Mortensen
Enkil: Joaquin Phoenix
Mael: Tom Welling
Marius: Vincent Perez (liked him well enough for him to go it again)
Lestat: Orlando Bloom (or *maybe* Colin Farrell)
Louis: Brad Pitt (of course)
Daniel: James Marsden
Armand: Gael Garcia Bernal
Jesse: Fairuza Balk, Julia Stiles or Erika Christensen (I'm pretty ambivalent)
David Talbot: Anthony Hopkins
Baby Jenks: Christina Rici
Pandora: Claudia Black (criminally under used in the first version)
Gabrielle: Michelle Pfiffer
So, who would you cast?

Okay, I have to get back to work, but I just skimmed your cast list and had a little freakout because it is one of my often-visited rants that MICHELLE PFEIFFER is THE ONLY ONE to play Gabrielle (I go ranty mcrantpants over this) and Nicole Kidman has *got* to play Maharet/Mekare.
On the other hand, Marius and Lestat are both described in the books as being very blonde in coloring. I am kind of picky about how the actors really ought to look like the characters as written ... there is just no way Colin Farrell could possibly work, and even though I like Vincent Perez he bears NO resemblance physically to Marius as written!
... no time to consider the rest ... (some of the actors' names I don't even recognize, actually.)

Michelle Pfeiffer has been my Gabrielle since I read the book in the ninth grade. The only other person I could go for in the part is Uma Thurman, who could also possibly play the Twins. But Michelle, yeah. It's all about Michelle.

I don't know who this Garcia Bernal fella is ... but after reading the book about Armand, I thought Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I really, really want to see him playing an Anne Rice vamp and I think he'd fit the Armand role.
The past couple of days I've been considering Jude Law as Lestat. Because he is beautiful, just beautiful. Everyone would fall in love with him, just like they do with Lestat, and let him get away with everything ...

Jude Law has definitly got the potential for Lestat. But there's something in the fineness of Orlando's features, but I wonder if Jude wouldn't just edge him out on intensity. Still, if Orlando were just a few pounds heavier.
