TV: Sleepy Hollow 1.2 - Blood Moon

Obviously, I'm going to be needing an Abbie icon.

Tonight's episode had me a little more than the first. I'm still jarred sometimes by the wacky, like can we walk physics for a moment and contemplate that head in mirror moment? Cause, yeah, somehow head in glass does not equal Pez Dispenser.

There's some interesting references playing around in this. The Headless Horseman as one of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, for example. Then there was the neato Evil Dead tree in the dream sequence. What up, Sam Raimi!

[personal profile] lettered recced a great fic that touches on Ichabod's alienation, [profile] hollimichele's Ten Clicks. Apparently, she knew where this was all going because lo! We get Ichabod and the Light! Ichabod and Electricity. Icahbod and the Shower. And Ichabod and Planet of the Apes! LOL!! Here is your lesson in Evolution, Hollywood Style! I'm only surprised the little people in the TV didn't throw him more. But I get it, really ain't got time for him to be startled by every damn thing. Although, I am totally tickled by the way he enunciated Donut. Holes. HA HA HA!

Once we got past the episodes opening set-up, I was all invested. That has been the beauty of the show so far. I find the set-up kind of jarring somehow, but once the ep picks up steam there's no stopping it.

John Cho's resurrection and wrinkly broken neck were hilarious. I love the smeary, fuzzy demon thing that's running this show. It's like a creature behind a veil, on just the other side of reality, but not through to *here.*

Awesome use of a soundtrack ... Frank Sinatra's witchcraft on the car radio. Loved it!

Blood Moon was very monster of the week. The witch was put back to rest rather quickly and easily considering, but that's not necessarily a format that most shows can get around in the first season. The mythology has got to build, I get that.

Clancy Brown coming back to haunt and act as Abbie's ye old sage is pretty cool. I like Clancy Brown. I like how defensive Abbie is about how much she loved and misses him. I love Abbie and Ichabod. The push and pull in the chemistry is interesting. I think Nicole Behaire could act opposite anyone, but Tom Mison makes me really believe in Ichabod Crane, the bad ass.

Now, with all that ... how stoked am I that we get to have Abbie's Sarah Connor-esque sister, Jennifer. All kick ass and crazy in a mental institution, obviously working on her fitness in preparation for The End of Days, yo!

Can't wait to see more of her. Can't wait to see how she brushes up against Abbie. Sister dynamics, especially one where the one sister is embracing the experience in the woods while the other is totally resisting it.
