Heroes 3.2 - The Butterfly Effect

After the whirlwind of plotty chaos that was episode 3.1, I kinda checked out on this one. It was too much too soon and all at once. That damned reset button that smacked of some unacknowledged retcon. We saw lots more of the plot sledgehammer.

-- I knew that Mama Petrelli had a power and I figured it was like Jedi mind tricks. Awesome! It's really subtle and if you blinked, you missed it, but we've seen her use that power of suggestion before. I'm wondering if it wasn't Bob and Lindermann who prevented her from using her Jedi mind tricks to control Sylar or if Sylar is just a really tough nut to crack.

-- How much did I love that Elle blew up? She's got electricity in her head, you guys, No wonder she's crazy. I felt bad for Elle, thogugh. She lost her father, her job, and five public enemy's all at once. Sucks to be you, cupcake. Now that she's been fired do you think Elle will move in with the Bennett's? She's got nowhere to go, after all. She and Clare could have pajama parties and braid each other's hair and angst over their daddy issues. Maybe Super Emo Boy could come over and they could have a threesome. Better yet! Maybe tortured and jaded future!Peter could come over and have a threesome. So, who's going to write me that story?!

I love Kristen Bell in this part, btw. She's cracks so beautifully.

-- Oh, Mad Scientist!Mohinder, now you're Spiderman. How awesome is that? (I was being all sarcastic right there, btw.) Too bad you're turning into Venom. Oh, Heroes, you are so precious.

I'll tell you what I did find interesting about the Crazy Mohinder show was the shift in his relationship with Maya. Maya obviously has a thing for crazy, power hungry men and she succumbs pretty quickly and pretty easily. (When the buttons went flying, I thought for a minute we were in a romance novel, wtf.) The creepy part of that scene, and skeeve about the pairing, is how Maya replaces Molly who replaced Shanti as the key to solving the equation of the mutation. Maya has replaced her brother with Sylar and now with Mohinder. For them to sleep together is oddly incestuous.

As for Maya, independently, I can only hope that she is less of a plot device than Molly. So far, I have my doubts. Like Molly, Maya's agency is compromised and she's been continually passed between men for her entire run on the show.

-- Nikki's newest personality is a wtf, like, whoa! How and why it manifested is a question I'm only vaguely interested in learning the answer to. The new power is all kinds of awesome, so she *could* be someone new, but I hope not cause ... why? I'm also wondering if a new power will manifest with each personality. Nikki and Jessica were so intertwined that it makes sense that they shared a power. Tracy is an unknown quantity and is, so far, unaware of the other two personalities.

-- Time, time, time. I wish that the shows on my TV would stop monkeying around with time. It gives me a headache. Where, for the love of tuna, is Peter's body? We know his mind's been strategically moved into a violent criminal with super powers, wtf -- hello, plot, nice to see you again -- but where's his body?!

-- Why hello, newly freed uber villains that we've never heard of but who might be worse than Sylar. Which ... possibly, seeing as how we have that nifty gas station scene to demonstrate their heinous, worse-than-Sylar villainy. Of course, Peter's got to keep an eye on them because his do-gooder complex is as established as Nathan's god complex.

-- Bob's dead in case you blinked and missed it. Mama Petrelli is the new head honcho and that's awesome and scary. Her voice, leaning over Sylar and declaring her mommyhood, was chillingly Bad Queen/Evil Witch from Snow White.

-- Clare is having existential angst and Peter is playing Superman, again. How he knew she was trying to die by train way out in California, I will NEVER know. The Clare can't feel, am-I-human thread is interesting and reminds us of Adam.

-- If you didn't know that Lindermann was a figment than you're paying less attention than I am. No cookie for you!

What else is there to know about 3.2?

Oh, Parkman's been sent to the Motherland by future!Peter where he's met yet another Magical Negro. This one is even taking him on a field trip. Spirit walk, yay!! That makes three Magical Negroes in as many seasons. This one can see the future and is running around mysteriously painting rocks in the savannah where ANYBODY could see. Except for that one time when he went to New York and painted the side of a building. Why do I feel like that symbol is the new logo for "Maya in a Bottle"? You too can be a hero.

It's only the beginning of the season and I feel like I'm handwaving alot. There's threads flying all over the place and I hope that TPTB do a better job of pulling it all together than they did last season. I'm kinda on my last legs with this show.
